If I Were Famous

So how many of you have thought, "I wish I were famous!"? I bet quite a few of you. We imagine the life, the money, the homes the notoriety. It all seems quite awesome.

Well as a photographer I think the same. In the photographic community we have our famous (or how we like to say) 'rock star photographers'. And I dream of it daily. I dream of speaking in Vegas, I dream of the high end celebrity clientele. I dream of the magazine covers my photos can be on. Its all so freaking awesome!

Its also frustrating. Frustrating to not know what it takes. Frustrating to watch those around you get where you want to be. And frustrating that its not you and may never be.

But last night....it REALLY hit me. I had somewhat of a revelation. I sat and REALLY thought about a so-called 'rock star photographers' life. And heres what I thought.... They are always on planes traveling going from town to town even different countries to host their workshops and speak. They are busy working their ASSES off to get in magazines and be the best and entering competitions and being what it takes. They are giving up the ONE thing I hold dear to me. TIME!

I have 4 little babies who need me. They are the reason I do what I do. The reason im able to follow my passion. Because of them Im a better photographer. I love having the freedom to take them to the park, or go play with them when they ask. Helping them with their homework. Even the potty training, spitting up and other messes us parents have to deal with on the daily.... I WANT IT ALL!!! I could never give that up to be a 'rock star photographer'. I could never trade in goodnight kisses for a phone call from a hotel in a far away city.

So what I realized is that I was chasing something I REALLY dont want after all. Im perfectly happy catering to the wonderful clients I have now, working at a slower pace for the sake of my family. Sometimes its nice to imagine 'what if?' but when you actually think of what it takes, it may NOT be what you want. And so, I may not be in any magazines.....but I will be in my children's childhood memories. <3

2011 was a great year! I met some amazing people, made great friends and it was more than I could ever ask for. I hope the same for 2012!

So Im posting here all my faves from 2011!! Its a collection of images from all my clients this year. Heres how this contest will work:

Ive posted ONE image from 2011 as your entry. If you've had more than one session as most of you did... only one image will be here for your entry. If Ive missed you or you're here and wish NOT to be... please email me at info@jmpny.com as soon as you can and ill correct it.

Each image will be numbered. Voting can be done by anyone as long as they are a fan of my Facebook page HERE. Votes will be a simple comment here on this blog with the number of the image they are voting for. ONLY ONE VOTE PER PHOTO PLEASE. You may however vote for more than one person. So today I had the pleasure of meeting two very precious kids. 7 year old Andrew who is quite laid back and very sweet... but just dont ask him to kiss his sister....lol. And 3 (almost 4) year old Gabriella. She has some little personality I tell ya! So cute! And together they are just darling.

Happy Halloween Guys!!!

I hope all of you who celebrate had a great holiday. The weather was pretty good where I am in NY (minus the leftover snow from our nor'easter) and so we were able to have a good time. The kids filled up their bags quick this year. I forget that the more children I have = more bags of candy each year...lol.

Of course, my Justin kept pulling off the BEST part of his costume (the hat) ......and as you can see... he won.

We saw some cool pumpkins along the way.....

Its so fun watching them light up when a door opens and they say, "TRICK OR TREAT!!!" Even the anticipation of the door opening is fun.

But just watching them have fun and being with other children all while playing dress up.....is really the treat for me. ;)

Chasing Luca

Sometimes, in my line of work, you meet a child who just wants to play! In other words... run, run, run!!! ;) And when that happens... you just have to chase them...lol. Today, Luca saved me some money on a gym membership and we had a blast. He was happy, playful, all smiles and did what he wanted to do. And theres no way to 'pose' a child who wants to do what THEY want... you just gotta wing it.

I love birthdays! I love photos! So naturally... I LOVE these sessions!

This little guy shares a birthday with my little princess and so hes a bit cooler for that...lol. Plus with a name like Colten.. you know you're in store for great things!

We battled some wind that nearly took the balloons (with weights) across the park, but we had a great session. See for yourself!

Shooting for fun!

I was reminded today by a friend (thanks Brian!) to make sure to make time to shoot for ME! Us photographers get so caught up in shooting for everyone else, that usually photos of our own are lost in the process.

So today.... I took my camera around while my daughter had skating lessons and we went to the park. These photos may not be perfect, or technically correct, or professional... BUT.... they are for me. They are of the people that are dearest to me and that makes them the greatest photos EVER!!

This was taken in my home before we left for skating!

One of the BEST parts of doing what I do for a living is seeing the children over the years as they grow! Last I saw Cara she had just started walking and now... shes a big girl. She needed some time to warm up to me but in no time, she was grabbing me by the hand and leading the way.

A Magical Wedding

This weekend I had the most amazing opportunity ever! One was being able to shoot a wedding with my friend, the amazing Amanda Picone of Amanda Picone Photography. And, two, being able to shoot such an incredible couple with such an awesome story.

Mike and Sarah are BIG lovers of Disney. The hat you see Mike wearing upon entering is the ACTUAL Indiana Jones hat and they walked in to THAT theme song. The cake was made by Buddy, the cake boss himself. Also a friend of the family. How many hints of Disney can YOU find?

Baby Ava's Baptism

This weekend was a busy one. I had the pleasure of capturing a baptism on Sunday. Baby Ava looked GORGEOUS in her pure white dress embellished by mom herself. Surrounded by great friends and family, Ava was welcomed in to the catholic church with open arms. ;)

How to Prepare For Your Session

So youve finally done it!! Youve booked a professional photographer for your portraits! Kudos! I know its an investment but its one that will last you a lifetime of memories.

So now that youve booked, how do you prepare? Well, to start its always best to lay out a few outfits the night before and choose your favorite. Remember comfort! If you dont wear 9 inch heels on a daily basis, you may not want to start now. If youre uncomfortable, it will show in your images.

If its a family shoot, you do not all need to have the exact same identical outfits. But its nice to keep the color in the same family.

Notice how the boys shirts pull colors right out of moms dress.

Now, im no fashionista so thats about all the advice I can give on what to wear. I can also say... for fall.. layers and bold colors and funky accessories on kids is just GREAT. If the kids can look like they stepped out of a Childrens Place flyer, id be tickled pink!...lol.

And Sometimes.. wearing NOTHING is just as fun!!!

Some helpful Do's...

Get your hair and makeup done. This is a great one! Who doesn't want to be pampered. No better reason than now. If you can do it on your own.. even better. Just be sure to have your best face on and hair looking gorgeous. You're putting a lot into these images, you want to look your absolute best when a 30x40 family photo is hanging in your living room.
Get a mani/pedi! Yes, more pampering! (Don't worry guys.. I wont tell her to get a massage next... but you can get that for her to make it extra special if you wish.) But you'll want your nails to look great... you never know when ill be taking a shot of hands or feet. Especially on the beach!
Bug spray!!! If its summer and youre shooting outdoors, wear it! (I wish I followed my own advice here...lol)
For sessions on the beach, bring baby powder. Best way to get sand of in a instant!
Bribery! Yes, I said it. Bring a small bribery snack for any child who may have a hard time. It will be the last resort but it may help get the shot. Just don't make it an entire sandwich as that would not be ideal....lol. M&M's, Gerber puffs, cheerios and other small snacks are best.

Important Don't's!

Dont be late. Your photographers time is valuable and they may have a session right after you. So if your shoot is from 6-7 and you get there at 6:45, be prepared for a 15 minute shoot. And its always great to call if youre running late as most of the time they may be able to accommodate you.
Dont bring hungry children. Kids cooperate much better with full tummies AND after naps. So be sure that theyre full and rested.
If a child is not cooperating, please do not get upset at the child. It will only make the mood worse and chances are the photographer is getting the shots they need anyhow.
Please be sure not to take any photos during the session with cell phones or any other cameras. Not only will it be confusing for the child but chances are the very second the photographer gets the child to LOOK at him/her, they will be looking at the other camera instead.
Dont show up in old t-shirts. It seems this would be a given but a lot of time is being put into the session even if it was a gift from someone else, so be sure to dress nicely.

I really should thank the person who ripped her dress on her wedding day....lol. She immediately emailed me and said, "Well... I may as well do something fun with it now!" And oh yes we did!!!

If you've never had a boudoir shoot, you really should give it some thought. Not only is it probably the most fun you'll have with the girls in your lingerie.... lol... but it will be a GREAT way of boosting your self esteem! Who couldn't use more of that?!

You dont need to be a size 0 (or a 14 for that matter) and you don't have to 'have' someone to give the images to. Just doing it for YOU is plenty. And if all else fails... you'll have awesome hair and makeup to go out with that night...lol.

Ode to the newbies!!!

.....newbie photogs that is....

Everyone starts somewhere! I don't care what your level or income is.. you ALL started with blurry images, horrid edits in paint.net and cheesy poses. How do I know this... well I too once started there. And oh Lord I have the pics unfortunately to prove it.

Of course theres soooooooo much to it, that takes A LOT of time to grasp, other than photography. After I realized I could take my images and 'pretty them up' and make some money... I soon hit a wall! HARD! It was called business and marketing. Great.. I have 'the eye'.... great I know PS.... how the HECK do I GET the business?!!?

When I first started it was because I was REALLY behind with rent and bills. I had just had my 3rd child and actually didnt know what to do. Hubby was laid off and I literally was in tears. I had gone to the welfare line IN NEED! I was on the verge of being thrown out. Only to find my awesome taxes I have paid prior, now allowed me, a whopping $35 a month!! WOW! Awesome huh?! I bawled. And bawled some more. I tried to figure out a way to make income while still being a mom first. Joined a little online community and joined a group of moms who had a love of photography like me. I can not thank them all enough. They have helped me start this up and without them, I cant say where Id be.

Theres a lot you will learn from others, but also a lot you will have to learn on your own. I owe my clientele to Facebook...lol. Of course I started REAL slow... but eventually word of mouth gets around. Tagging your sneak peeks is a HUGE help on FB as far as marketing goes. You tag your client and all 500 of HER friends will see YOUR images. At LEAST 5-10 of them will fan you and/or inquire about pricing. Having a referral plan in place helps this along too. And soon.. a cycle starts. Session>tag>new fan>inquiry. Its like the song that never ends....yes it goes on and on my friends....lol. (now THATS in my head AND yours...lol)

I hear it all the time. People who dont live in large areas like I do. "Im in a small town with 30 known photogs. How do I rise above?" Easy.... market OUT of your area!! I live in a fairly decent town.... but about 1% IF THAT comes from my town. You have to be honest...if you live in a town that cant afford you.. market to the towns that can. Even if theyre an hour or so out. Most of the time, theyll be willing to come to you! If not, the travel is worth it if youre priced accordingly. And... if YOU can afford yourself... RAISE YOUR PRICES! Of course take into consideration your skill level. But I know I couldnt afford me. Custom portraiture is a luxury that not everyone can have OR they need to plan to save for it. Were not Sears or Portrait People. We will NEVER be. So dont compare yourselves to them EVER. They are there for a reason and serve their purpose. We are artists. So much goes into what we do and our clients know this and that is why they keep coming to us. They respect and understand the art. If your were trying to sell a Maserati.... would you look to see what Toyota was doing?

Are there bumps on the road to success?! Heck no!!! Theyre freaking MOUNTAINS!! Ive had a few. And you just have to KEEP ON GOING. Dont give up. Im still on that road myself. So many times (even now I must confess) Ill see other amaaaazing photogs work and im just like, "why the HECK do I bother... ill NEVER be THAT good!" But I suck it up cuz I know if I quit.... I WONT ever be that good.. but I am sure as hell going to try!

Its a TOUGH industry. Theres haters, copy cats, even those who steal your 'about me' page...lol. You have to hold your head high and be better. Be confident in your work, your pricing and your abilities! If youre not there yet technically in your photographic journey.. you WILL be.... if youre there... dont forget where you came from.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Thats all I can think to do when I hear it. Justin's no more 'months' old.. hes ONE! Waaaah!

Im entitled to whine no? I mean it was just the other day when I was sharing my birth story with you all and receiving messages of congrats to hundreds of you on FB! And now.... hes ONE. Waaaah!

So... what do I do? What ANY mother would do!!! TAKE PICTURES! Duh!...lol. We went out to a favorite spot of mine and this was our adventure.

Me, hubby, Justin, my other 3 children and my nephew (Yes, clearly I wasn't thinking) venture out to do Justin's cake smash photos. So we get to the park and I need the 'right' spot. I have my props, I put a lot of thought into this shoot and I wasn't going to plop him just ANYWHERE. So the park is a full mile around. About a little more than half a mile through, I find a spot. Still not what I 'wanted', but it was the best. And after yelling at my children the entire length of the walk to stop chasing the geese and rolling in the dirt.. THAT spot was fine!

So... we start setting up and pollen is flying EVERYWHERE!! I mean, it looked like snow it was so heavy. After complaining about it being inhaled and sucked into my nostrils (im STILL sneezing as I type), hubby points out it would look cool in the photos. I shut up... pollen stopped falling.

I look up and the 4 kids (my older 3 + nephew) are climbing the largest mountain of rocks in the park. "GET DOWN FROM THERE RIGHT NOW!!!" People jogging the path now think im a nutty lady screaming with balloons and cake in hand. They get down reluctantly and I continue helping hubby set up. Cuz OF COURSE he knows nothing of what I want...lol.

Then I see them playing at the VERY edge of the lake. "CAN YOU NOT PLAY NEAR DANGEROUS THINGS!!!" More joggers and bikers thinking im a nut-job with balloons. Then I hear my Jamey screaming. I look over and hubby runs over to find he had slipped in the 10 inch mud at the edge of the lake and is COVERED! No, i don't have a pic, i was too angry...lol. We had to toss his shoes, thats how bad it was. So we clean him off and I banish the children to benches and move on to the sole reason for me dragging everyone out.... JUSTINS CAKE SMASH!!!

LOVED these boys!!! Yes they have the COOLEST names everrrr! Cash and Lorenzo. Little 'Renzo is not even 2 yet and he talks up a storm and has a heart of GOLD. He welcomed me right in with hugs, high fives and wanted me to carry him EVERYWHERE! Of course I did....lol. Cash was ALL about the pictures. He loved to pose and of course... had to see the in camera results. He even took a shot of mommy and daddy (see pic below) =P.

I had the most fun Ive had in a while. Great kids, gorgeous parents... who could ask for any more?!

Ive had lats of sessions so if I were to start catching you up on those it would make your head spin! So ill start with some major events going on with JMPNY!

Strength in Numbers.

Ive been truly amazed by people this week. Im in awe how complete strangers can get together and do something SOOOO wonderful for a family in need. I mean, us as human beings have proved this over and over again... but now its just surreal to me.

The auction Im holding for the Price family is going wonderfully! Donation flowing in of the most AWESOME items around! From photography to designer shoes and even wii consoles!!! Bids are just as nuts!! I LOVE IT!!

When I first learned about what Amy was facing, I (like most others) was absolutely in tears. But me maybe more-so than some others. Ive known Amy for a while (never met but still feel like family) and weve been through similar situations together. We're both AWESOME photographers...he he he. OK so shes better...lol. But weve helped each other get to where we are in our businesses. I remember her when she found out she was pregnant with her 4th (g-man!) and while it wasnt planned to be, it was and she took hold of him and loved every minute of it. Not too soon after, I found out i was expecting my 4th that was also unplanned and THEN knew what she felt. She was able to speak to me at a very tough time and help me through. I can never thank her enough for that. I also kinda blamed her jinxy butt for sending me the baby dust...lmao. But weve always helped each other. Miles away but seconds apart. We had online baby showers for our babies...lol. Our children are about the same ages as well and i cant help but to compare situations and to think what she and her family are going through. So OF COURSE when I found out.. I was MAD for her. I was angry with GOD for her. I wanted to hit things or blame someone! But all I could do was sit and cry for them. I wanted to be able to do SOMETHING. Naturally I wanted to CURE their babies, but knew that was impossible. Then was ANGRY that I couldnt. So the next best thing is to help them help their babies!! They upped and left everything behind without looking back to save their littlest boy. But naturally, bills keep coming. And new bills come with doctors and tests as well. So if I could help with THAT somehow, I can know I was doing SOMETHING. So of course i sent money. (never enough) And when my taxes came.. I wanted to just send it ALL. But knew I have a family and bills too. So i tried to raise some awareness on my FB page and get donations. It has helped. But I STILL wanted to do more. Then someone (GOD BLESS HER) told me to try an auction. Well.... i did. And were 2 days in and already have more than $3,000!!!!

As I said.... I am truly amazed. I am THANKFUL to those whove donated and MORE thankful to those bidding!

Snow, snow and MORE SNOW!!!

So, when MOST of you look out your window, theres that white stuff ALL OVER the place. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE snow, LOVE sledding with the kids, but enough is enough already. We, here in NY, have had snow on the ground consecutively since 12/26!!! It hasnt even had a CHANCE to melt away...lol. I feel for those shoveling and salting. I truly do. Now is the time where I wish even MORE that I lived in AZ.

But Im here in NY so I have to cope...lol. It does make the photography biz a bit slower when you dont have a studio though. While I LOVE doing snow shoots, not everyone likes baring it out in the cold snow. I feel like im going through shooting withdrawls...lmao. I mean, I do shoots indoors too, but you all know how I love shooting outdoors. I miss it. I need to get my camera back out there!

Wow! Its REALLY coming down out there! Make sure all of you out there get where youre going safely!!! Heres thinking of the warm summer sun!!!

A new Journey for me!

So, today marks step one in a lifetime of changes for me.

As most of you know, im a big girl. Being small is something Ive NEVER experienced. And with it being 2011 there's ways to help that process along. Ive decided to go through with Gastric Bypass surgery and couldn't be happier about it. I know many success stories and I hope to be one as well. I know many people do not agree with this drastic measure, but most of those people have also never battled obesity.

Ive been overweight since infancy really. I have not one photo where I wasn't overweight. So for the chance for something like this to help me achieve what most people take for granted in life, is awesome for me. Ive been the child that skipped gym as to not get dressed with the other girls. The girl that sits at the school dances because no one would ask. I cant say I was teased much because that may have happened once until I put them in their place....lol. But I knew the 'looks'. A REAL eye opener was going to Portugal. A completely new country and I can honestly say I was the largest person there. Here in America I'm small compared to many. But I felt the stares there as if I were a freak show.

Now that my family is rounded out, I can take the time for my own health. Today was step one. I had my consult with the surgeon and nutritionist. But this will be a long process. One that Id like to share with you all. Both for the support and encouragement but also, possibly to help someone else feeling as I now do. I will be seeing my PCP once a month until June for weight management. I have a few tests to undergo by June as well and once all is done, I go in once more in June/July for a meeting with the surgeon and get a date for the surgery!

I know A LOT of you think this is 'cheating' or 'taking the easy way out', I even may have thought that myself at one point, but after today, I know its just as much work as without the surgery. Its a tool, yes, but by no means a cure. Ill have to change my eating, and excersize like any other person losing weight through any other method. But I KNOW this is the way that will help me best.

So now, when I look in the mirror, I see what I know what will be. I see me a year from now. Being able to take the stairs without getting winded. Or playing with my children on the floor and getting up easily. I dont know how I came to be where Im at today. But I KNOW how Ill come to be tomorrow. So heres to the future and my health and better times with my family! I will update you all as I go along this journey.

Need a new Camera?! Whats best for YOU?!

So youre in the market for a new camera, eh? Your current one takes all dark and blurry shots you say, eh? Now I sound like Im from Canada, eh?! ...lol.

But in all seriousness, I get asked this ALL THE TIME! "Which camera would you recommend? I need a new one. This ones crap!" So I figured id blog about it and now when my inbox gets cluttered with this question from my great and loyal fans. I can direct them to one place.

First you have to understand A LOT of the time photos come bad, its user error. You need to understand WHY your photos are coming dark and/or blurry. If youre camera is on auto (how most people shoot with point and shoots) your pretty much leaving your images to chance. The CHANCE that the lighting is perfect for a well lit image. The CHANCE that theres enough light for your p&s (point and shoot) to determine it needs a great enough shutter speed (ss) that your image will be actually in focus.

So heres the deal!

If you think upgrading to a DSLR (fancy shmancy thing that changes lenses) will give you better images.... PLEASE don't waste your hard earned money. I'm not saying they wont be better... because surely they will. But not enough for the amount you'll be spending. If you're going to be shooting on 'auto' I recommend buying a higher end p&s. Maybe even one that has a 'manual' function mode where you can practice shooting manually. (YOU setting ISO, shutter speed and F stop) The Kodak Easy Shares or Canon Powershots are great options for what youll be needing them for. Even if youre wanting to LEARN to shoot manual.... id start there.

I know people who go out and get a DSLR and are SO bummed that 'theyre not as good as they thought'.... ummm... yes they are... you just need to KNOW the camera and what it does. First off, the lens that will come with your DSLR is not good in low light. Youll need a flash. Your pop-up flash is NOT ideal but hey.... it does the trick right? If you want a lens for low light.... youre looking at an additional $500 or more on top of that $500-$700 DSLR you just bought. All to take pics of your dog inside. =) Shooting a DSLR on 'AUTO' will render the same results as will your p&s on 'auto'. You REALLY want great images... switch your little dial to the 'M' and PRACTICE! It does eventually get fun!!

This is merely my own personal opinion of which we all know are like ____ Everyone's got one. But this is also my professional opinion, so if it saves you $1000 in the long run. Youre welcome. ;)

Boudoir Photography and why you should do it!

Now... I know the LAST thing you want to think of while youre trying to figure out how to get that tree out of your house without getting pine needles everywhere, is Valentines Day! But in the Photography world.. you MUST think ahead in order to claim your spot.

What are you getting YOUR loved one for V-day?! A new tie? Gift Card to Home Depot or Best Buy? Well... while thats all fine and dandy... what do you think his face would look like if he opened up a leather album with gorgeous photos of none other that YOU!? I think *I* have an idea....;)

Boudoir photography is about making women look their best in a comfortable, safe and EXCITING atmosphere! What woman doesn’t want to feel and look gorgeous…and have photos to prove it?! Whether the boudoir session is for a significant other or just for you to celebrate YOU, it’s definitely worth your time. It is completely normal for you to be a little nervous for your session. I promise by the time you step foot in front of the camera, you will be amazed at how comfortable you can be because you will look AMAZING!

Here are some FAQs that you may have about boudoir photography:

1. What should I expect for my boudoir session? First and foremost…expect to have a BLAST!!! Seriously, unless I already know you very well, I start every session talking with you so you can get comfortable, we can get to know each other’s personality, see what you’re looking to portray in your photos, how much you want to reveal (or don’t want to reveal) in your photos, talk about wardrobe options, and fnially get the ball rolling. I won’t expect you to just dive right in after we meet unless of course, that’s what you want to do. lol.

2. What should I wear? Well, that is entirely up to you. Normally, I suggest bringing a favorite little dress that you love, some lingerie (which those don’t always need to be too revealing), something of your loved ones (button down shirt, work shirt or something of his/your hobby to incorporate) and ACCESSORIES!! Earrings, necklaces, thigh highs, high heels (because they make your legs look fantastic!!) and anything else that you think you may want to use.

3. Will I have to get naked?! To put it simply…no. Many clients do not. And some do. It honestly depends on the person. Remember, boudoir photography is almost like glamour photography. Nothing trashy. Most boudoir portraits “suggest” nudity but not actually show anything. Clients are NEVER pushed outside of their comfort zone. This is something that is discussed even before stepping in front of the lens.

4. I think I’m too fat and would like to wait until I lose a few more pounds. Photography is not like being on tv. It doesn’t make you gain 10 lbs by being in front of the camera. As the artist, we know tricks to show your most fabulous side and to hide what you may be self-conscious about (we all have our self-conscious issues…it’s a woman thing! lol). Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and it’s my job to show you that. Boudoir photography is showing the beauty that you already have….I just enhance it.

5. How long will my session take? That depends on a few things. Typically, my sessions last about 1 ½ hrs. But if it’s a workshop, the time in front of the camera will vary as you most likely will have your make-up and hair done, as well as a few changes of clothes. If you bring a lot of outfits, plan on more time.

6. Can I bring a friend? Absolutely! I would suggest a female friend to make it a little more comfortable for you. Whether or not they are viewing your photo session, is up to you!

7. Do you do retouching? Is it Extra? The retouching I do consists of removing things like scars, acne, stretch marks, skin smoothing, etc. It is done to make it look natural and undetectable. You will not look like a plastic doll. This is all done at no additional cost.

8. Will they be posted online? Are they private? The photos will only be posted online in a password protected gallery (in which only YOU will have the password to). Or we can schedule a viewing session in your home. So yes, they are very private. Also, images will never be used for portfolio (web or print) unless you give me written permission. However, clients that allow me full usage rights to their images will receive discounts or product upgrades as a thank you!

9. Where do you do the session? Sessions can be done at your home, or at a hotel. Many also opt to have a “Girls Night Out” boudoir party where the hostess invites 4-6 of her closest friends over for some fruit, champagne, hair, make-up and portraits done all in one night.

11. How much does the session cost and what is included? For a Girls’ Night Out Boudoir Party or to book a session for the boudoir marathon, please email me for rates as those will vary. If enough individuals book, it may be moved to a local hotel for convenience. Also consider if you would like to have a professional make-up artist and/or hair stylist for the session (which I highly recommend).

But a typical session is $300.00 and that includes:

~ My time and talent for photographing and retouching all the images that are shown in the gallery.

~ Your choice of either a custom designed 8×8 photo book with 10pg/20 side (containing approx. 18-24 images from the session) OR a custom-designed 5×7 memory box containing 25 5×7 mounted portrait prints from the session.

I hope you all have had a great day and are now stuffed with ham, lying on the couch with your family watching some AWESOME Holiday movie!

Today was great! It was just us but I loved every second of it. Just me, my husband and my AWESOME kiddos!

It started yesterday for us when the kids all fell to sleep EARLY (thank goodness) and Santa came early!

Around 11pm all gifts were under the tree. Just a word of advice to all you OTHER control freaks. If your husband asks to help wrap gifts.. JUST DO IT!!! It was so hard for me to let go and have 'imperfectly wrapped' gifts. But I assure you the kids didnt notice AT ALL and it cut my time in half. SO WORTH IT!

So after we hit the hay around 11:30..... Joseph and James wake up around 12am....lol. "Mommy mommy! The tree is full of gifts!" ME: " No honey, youre dreaming... go back to bed." Without hesitation, they ran back to bed. (PHEW! That was close!)

Then around 5:30AM.... MY internal alarm goes off since im soooo ANXIOUS to see my kids faces. (Plus I need to make sure James doesnt attack everyones gifts...lol) So I toss and turn until around 6:15 when I hear little footsteps... then I hear those same footsteps RUN back into the room when I hear Jacki: "Joey! Joey! Wake up! Santa came!!" "James, wake up!! SANTA CAME SANTA CAME!!!" Then in her cutesy baby voice: "Justin.. wake up cutey munchky poo.... you have presents!!" I just melted I swear!

So I get up to help them open all of their presents. The looks on their faces... well.... you know how it feels. The expressions... the smiles.... SO PRICELESS! Where are the photos you ask? Well, I chose to enjoy the moment WITHOUT my face behind a lens. Though I did get SOME video. As photographers, we sometimes forget that we like to LIVE in the moment instead of just capturing it! So while I LOVE seeing all your photos... dont forget to LIVE in your moments as well!!!

Respect Ones Art

Yes, respect ones art. Sounds simple right? But sometimes the average client doesnt realize that they are insulting their photographer. The biggest peeve is CROPPING. Yes, you know youve done it....;) When I post the sneak peeks, I LOVE that you love them. I LOVE that your friends and family love them! And more than ANYTHING... I LOVE seeing them as your facebook profile photo!!! Its extremely flattering. But seeing my photo with that tree in the backround I put there on purpose cropped out... or most IMPORTANTLY... MY LOGO cropped out.. is insulting. I know no one does it on purpose to insult. And sometimes Facebook crops them automatically... but you CAN fix it. I put a lot into the composition of each specific photo. But above that.... leaving my logo in tact allows other to see WHO the artist was. And being that I give those sneak images for you to use at will on the internet and via email at no cost whatsoever... my only request is that you repay me with a little notoriety. (Maybe even a nice shout out...lmao...j/k) .. kinda...lol.

So next time you want to crop my logo out, think about how much it would STINK if the next time I posted your photos... they looked like this....

OK... so how often is it that I get a client that has the most AWESOME outfits and ideas already lined up for me?

umm... NOT OFTEN ENOUGH.....lol.

BUT.... yesterday was one of those days!! The outfits on these girls and the props were ALL moms idea!!! It was SUCH fun for us all doing this shoot. And the fact that these girls are drop dead gorgeous certainly adds to the adorable-ness!!!!! Take a peek for yourself!!!

It’s the Brides day, but the Groom has a say too!

As many know, The Wedding Planning & Wedding Day is known to be all about the Bride. Well those days are over. The Groom has a say and most are not afraid to say it! Working with different couples you discover that there are different types of Groom Behavior‘s that will be expressed. You have the “It’s Her Day Groom“, “I only have one request Groom“, and the “I’m getting married too Groom.” These type of Groom behaviors you will see throughout the planning process. These behavior characteristics do not happen all at once, but they will show up!

Let’s start with the “It’s her day Groom”. This kind of Groom is the kind that really sits back and allows the Bride to choose whatever she likes and the Groom tends to just nod every now and then. This kind of Groom does have a preference however see’s all the details as overwhelming and rather allow the Bride & her planner or friends do what is considered by the Groom as the ‘fun-girly stuff”. This kind of Groom depending on the Bride can be a good or bad thing.

The “I only have one request Groom” is the Groom that wants total control of only one aspect of the wedding planning process. For most Groom’s it’s the music or his attire, although some have a preferred color that must be used, etc. The Groom makes it known from the beginning that this is what he wants and how he wants! He shows up when it’s time to make that important decision and you find that the Bride is so happy that her Groom is participating she doesn’t complain about his choice.

The last type of Groom behavior is the “I’m getting married too Groom”. This Groom tends to show up roughly a month before the Wedding Day. He is the most hands on during this month. This is where you will more than likely hear the most questions of concern and request from the Groom. Beware, he can turn into a Groomzilla..lol, yes they have their moments too! This Groom shows emotion of excitement, fear, and now realizes that he is getting married too! The Bride likes this Groom as well because he really becomes hands on, however some Groom’s do the opposite and like to disappear the last week.

All of the behaviors are expressed at one point or another within the planning process. From my experience I have seen the Groom behavior in the order of: “I only have one request”, It’s her day”, “I’m getting married too.” There is no correct order, because it all depends on the Bride & Groom, but be ready because there is a high chance you will experience all of these Groom’s behaviors in one wedding planning experience. So remember as much as it is all about the Bride, the Groom has a say too!

So 3 sessions in one day isn't the norm for me, but with Holidays coming and the demand.... today.....I had 3. It felt quite productive I must say. I enjoyed going from location to location meeting some new faces and having an old client return for more. Ive said it before and ill say it again, I love seeing how these children grow with each session! I can imagin that one day I may be photographing one of their weddings. Yes, I do! If I didnt... I dont think Id have 4 of my very own. But.. I love other peoples children because I get to give them back to mom and dad! He he he! =) AND... they are such fun to photograph. I love that theyre unpredictable. I love the chubby legs. I love the little giggles. And I love the sweet looks a brother or sister will give his or her sibling when they know no ones looking. (No, not the 'Im going to kill you' look either...lmao) Yes, I love children!

A Formal Engagement! {NY Wedding Photographer}

So, I finally had the chance to photograph an engagement party for a different culture. I LOVE all the different cultures we have in this world! I was never well rounded and knew nothing of any culture except my own (not even) until I met my husband. He was born a raised in Portugal and Im soooo very glad that MY children get to see what I didnt as a child. So now, as an adult, and a bit more well rounded, photographing this engagement party was a BLAST! The poor couple was so nervous at first but after being with loving family and friends, they soon relaxed and enjoyed the night! Heres some from the night.... talk about great colors!!!

So its been a while since my last wedding and OMG.. what a feeling to be back in the game! I absolutely LOVE weddings! And MANY photographers will tell you they DONT like them because its a lot of work. And it IS.. but I LIVE for it!!! This weekend I photographed the most GORGEOUS couple and shared their day with them for nearly 12 hrs.!!! I have tons more coming up and I cant wait!! Ive recently had the chance to shoot some clothing designs for Hot Tots Boutique! Her pillowcase dresses and accessories are absolutely TO DIE FOR! So I had a few models come by to shoot the dresses.
